With all the negativity and fear churning around us, I confess to feeling rather sheepish and disheartened of late.
.
So I’m doubly glad that I’ve stirred myself into listening to some of the inspiring interviews from the currently running United to Heal homeopathy online congress.
.
Now being held for the 7th time, and broadcast in German AND English for the first time, it brings together leading homeopaths, scientists, doctors and holistic therapists from around the globe - all available to listen for free. This time the focus is on treating cancer and there are some pretty inspiring people to listen to. Listening to Josef-Karl Graspeunter today and loving what I’m hearing. Such a wise man.

I think we’re all being isolated by the lamentations of the mainstream press and all these frightening rules and regulations. Listening to what a huge community of hard-working, hugely successful homeopaths there is out there, whether with corona or cancer or whatever else, reminds me how important our community is and what great work it’s doing around the world.

I have some exciting but also sad news to share with you today. After much consideration, we have decided to move our family to Germany for the next 1-2 years. And as a result, Snug Homeopathy will be on sabbatical for the remainder of the year.
.
It has been a hugely difficult decision to make, because living in Cornwall is a delight. But the lockdown of recent months has forced us to reassess our life - I’m sure I’m not the only one in this position! As my husband works in Germany and air travel is no longer the simple process we had all grown accustomed to, it makes sense for us to live somewhere where we can be together as a family, especially as our children are still young enough to appreciate us being together.
.
I’ve always loved Germany. I trained as a homeopath in Berlin and spent most of my adult life there, so it’s exciting if still a little daunting.
.
We do plan to come back so I hope you’ll all stay in touch! It’s been a huge privilege to engage with so many like-minded souls here.

Today was the first day ‘back at school’ for us and, like so many parents, I find myself struggling to juggle two non-computer-savvy children on two different decrepit devices, children who would much rather be in actual school with their friends, instead of recreating the experience with increasingly grumpy parents at home. Running back and forth enabling lessons while trying to answer my own work messages and emails, I found myself spiraling into feeling that all this will never end.
.
But do you know what? Several deep breaths later I realised that I just have to change the things that aren’t working for me. There’s always, but always, many ways to do things. And a little tweak can go a long way. So tomorrow we change things a little. And again the next day, if need be.
.
Especially these days, when it can feel like we have lost sovereignty over our lives, it really helps to adjust your focus and remember: YOU are in control. And if it’s not working, change it.

Phew! And now I’m off to supervise an online French horn lesson.... 🎼

We’re living through strange times. As media reporting of the Coronavirus continues to escalate, I’m reading more and more personal reports on social media of people being paralyzed by fear, experiencing panic attacks, anxiety, sleep loss and exacerbation of existing OCD conditions. I find it immeasurably sad that people are being made to feel this way through all the fear-mongering in the press. Yes, it’s worrying, but not to the extent that people need to feel such individual levels of panic and attack.

Fortunately, here too homeopathy can help. Homeopathy has an excellent track record in treating epidemics, including the Spanish Flu epidemic that followed the First World War, a time when homeopathy was in its heyday and there were many homeopathic hospitals throughout the UK and North America. Homeopathy treats pathological symptoms if you succumb to a virus, but it also helps with fear and anxiety of all kinds.

The remedy I feel many people need right now is Arsenicum album. A wonderful remedy and one I use a lot, it displays many fears and anxieties, including fear of contagious disease - in yourself and your loved ones. If you’re feeling overly anxious in the present climate, try a daily dose of Arsenicum album C30 for several days. Now normally I would say first consult your homeopath, but right now we’re not living in normal times and the epidemic affecting so many of us is fear rather than the actual Coronavirus. As fear weakens your immune system, targeting the fear makes absolute sense right now.

All the other common sense things also apply: washing hands with soap and water, boosting the immune system with vitamins C, A and zinc, and a healthy diet with lots of vibrant fruit and veg. Ditch the sugar for now, it only undermines your immune response. And do get in touch with your homeopath or naturopath - we’re here to help!

I took a break and went to Bali and it feels like my soul has only just returned. It’s a fairly common side effect of flying, especially long distance and through different time zones, that you can feel your body has arrived but your soul is still trudging along on foot, trying to catch up with you. It tells me there’s nothing natural about the way we move around the planet and of course Greta would agree.
.
But did you know that homeopathy can help with jet lag? Arnica, perhaps the best known remedy of all, is not only indicated for physical trauma and especially bruising. It’s also great for jet lag, which is like a trauma to the body as the body’s natural rhythms and cycles have been thrown completely off course. If you’re feeling sore, achy, bruised with tiredness, but find yourself telling people you’re fine, then Arnica could work wonders for you.

Another remedy idea for jet lag is Cocculus, a great one for travel (sea) sickness and also jet lag. Especially if you feel exhausted but can’t sleep, also weak, nauseous, dizzy and faint. Cocculus tends to feel worse in the fresh air, which is a pretty striking symptom. Lying down to avoid vomiting is also part of the picture.

September is the new January, they say. For me, it’s the best time of year to implement or reinvigorate changes and address old patterns that are no longer serving me. I find January a tough time of year to make change, coming out from the darkest time of the year. September is different. You are (hopefully) still full of the energy of summer and the still warm days catalyze your way.

I’ve been thrilled to have so many new people booking in for first consultations this month. It seems l’m not the only person ready to tackle old issues and get some healing into my life.
.
September is also a great time of year to address seasonal allergies, as it makes sense to catch them before they get really acute in the spring. It’s also a brilliant time of year to start homeopathic treatment if you suffer from seasonal affective disorder or simply find the winter months a struggle to maintain energy and mood.

Apologies for the long absence. It’s been a bit of a strange summer for me, with lots of unexpected complications to adjust and then readjust to. Mercury in retrograde? Or just life happening? Whatever the case, by early August I needed a real break so have been away in the Austrian mountains for most of August.
.
If you do any kind of therapeutic work, taking proper breaks when you need them is essential. Though much easier said than done! They let you step back, recalibrate your thinking, work out where your priorities lie and, most crucially, allow your monkey mind to rest.
.
I’m feeling much more me again after almost 3 weeks off. I’ll be back in the clinic from next Monday and look forward to seeing you there! 💚

Self-care has become a buzzword. And in many ways, rightly so. Rushing through life being constantly busy, ticking items off a list that never seems to grow any shorter, not having time for this passion and that pleasure... this is the way so many of us live and I fully acknowledge I’m not exempt from this.
.
Self-care means stopping and practicing something different. Remembering that sitting still to just be or let your gaze wander is more profitable than any active searching and brainstorming. Taking time to eat and nurture the soul with good food. Finding healthy habits that serve you.
.
One of the great things about growing older is how some of these things become instinctual. For me it’s having half an hour in the early morning for yoga and meditation, eating vibrant food that serves me, being still and not always busy.
.
But it doesn’t just come, it takes attention and practice. Gentle practice. On this beautiful solstice day, take a big breath and do something that serves you. And repeat. And repeat... gently, softly and with intention. 💚

Teenage mental health is an issue I’m acutely aware of. My best friend committed suicide at 18, just after receiving her A-Level results. I suppressed what that meant to me for years and years, but I still grieve for the amazing person Charlotte would have been today - had she lived. I imagine myself drinking a glass of wine with her and discussing our very different lives. And as wacky as it may sound, I’m sure she’s up there looking down at us all.
.
Nobody ever knew what drove her to it. But looking back, she was always sad, always felt different and frequently said she just wanted to be normal, to be like everyone else. And sadness and difference isn’t handled well in schools, where achievement and results matter and health and mental welfare are not really concepts that compute.
.
Recently I’ve been confronted with so many young people, mostly girls, struggling through their precious teenage years and feeling confused, ugly and wrong. Medicine doesn’t have much of an answer here, except for psychiatric drugs that suppress feelings rather than cure, leading you down a route to dependency rather than personal autonomy.
.
I would encourage anyone in such a situation to investigate homeopathy. It can work positive wonders in lightening mood and boosting mental well-being. It considers body, mind and emotions in a way you won’t find with conventional medicine. You just need to find a good homeopath, who works with you over time and understands your story. And with homeopathy, there are no side effects, no dependency. It works with you and not against you. I wish I had known about it back then. And I’m so grateful that I do now.

So in short: believe me, you are not alone and conventional medicine is not the only way. Please reach out. You always have options, even if it may not feel that way. ❤️
